Lively Technical Center Aviation Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician Training Program is one of the oldest A&P training programs in the state. The program has been in continuous operation since the early 1940’s. Lively Technical Center has been training aircraft mechanics for the past 68 years.
In 1937, Lewis M. Lively founded Lively Vocational Technical School. Mr. Lively’s goal was to provide young people in the Tallahassee area with vocational educational opportunities so that they would learn skills that assured them future employment. Soon after Lively Vocational Technical School was founded the school moved to the original Leon High School building at Duval Street and Park Avenue and additional training programs were added including Aviation Mechanics. Lively Technical Center’s Aviation program has operated continuously since it was established and received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification (September 24, 1953) to train Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanics.
In 1968, the Aviation Technician (AMT) program moved into new facilities located on the Tallahassee Regional Airport where students have the opportunity to witness actual aircraft operations. Students receive training from certified AMT instructors on real life aircraft and components which prepare them for a successful career in aviation maintenance. Lively Technical Center’s Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program is considered one of the oldest continuously operated AMT programs in the country. Program graduates are employed all around the world in all segments of the aviation industry; including airline, corporate, and private. Upon program completion, graduates take the FAA exams and demonstrate their practical knowledge and abilities to an FAA Designated Maintenance Examiner (DME) who will issue them an A&P Mechanics Certificate. This certificate will qualify them for the many opportunities of employment now available in all levels of the aviation maintenance industry. |
